How to start anything

Hint: do this (& what this newsletter will be about)

Five months ago, I got laid off (fired?) from my PM tech job.

Since then, I have applied to over 400+ jobs and had a few interviews… and eventually got rejected from all of them. 😃

I’ve always wanted to start writing online—experimenting with new ideas in marketing, writing, and monetizing, learning new things, and teaching everything I know.

In 2013, ConvertKit gave away free t-shirts during a promo (I believe). The t-shirt I ended up getting (all the way from the US to Pakistan!) was “Create Every Day”—something I’ve struggled to do almost every day since…

In the weeks leading up to this post, I’ve been in an intense “learning” mode.

So it feels fitting for this first post to be a reminder and a lesson—primarily for myself—and for anyone else reading this:

  • Start writing today

  • Hit that Publish button

  • Write and send that Tweet

  • Write and send that cold email

Chances are, if you’re anything like me, you’ve done enough learning and reading and watching other people do it…

I did the same, and had nothing to show for it.

Which is the biggest lesson I’ve learned recently: what’s the point of learning if I’m not doing anything with my knowledge?

So I figured I might as well start, even if it’s imperfect 🤷‍♂️

In case you’re curious, this newsletter will be about:

  • Marketing for businesses, primarily startups

  • Design + content

  • Documenting my journey

  • Building my online business

  • Anything else I learn along the way

If you’ve made it this far, shoot me an email and tell me:

  • What are you interested in?

  • How in the hell did you stumble upon this newsletter?!

  • What’s your #1 burning question? (Marketing, copywriting, branding, how to make the perfect matcha latte… could really be anything!)

talk soon,
Hassan
